The Dallas Cowboys released running back Israel Abanikanda and added Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons following a 69-yard rushing performance against the New York Giants in Week 1. The roster move created space for Goodson.

Abanikanda, a former Pitt player, ran 239 times for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns during his 2022 college season. He played six NFL games, all for the New York Jets in 2023, but did not establish a regular role in the league before Dallas released him.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front disrupted the running game early. He said Dallas faced excessive penetration and was physically outplayed at the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer also said Javonte Williams had trouble finding running room early, while the Cowboys made adjustments after halftime. The report was published by sports.yahoo.com.
