The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade that sends offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Thomas, who is 25 years old, was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft from Louisiana.
After spending his rookie year on injured reserve, Thomas played in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting four of them. He primarily played as a left tackle but has also served as a swing tackle throughout his career.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had previously indicated that Thomas would compete for the starting left tackle position against teammate Tyler Guyton, but Guyton has remained with the first-team offense due to concerns about Thomas's consistency.
In addition to this trade, the Cowboys have strengthened their offensive line by acquiring Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can play both left and right tackle. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones stated that the team has a plan for managing their offensive tackle situation as they approach the roster cutdown deadline.
The Cowboys' offensive tackle lineup now includes Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Broderick Jones, and fourth-round draft pick Drew Shelton, with further details on the trade's impact yet to be announced.
