The 2026 college football season will open with a matchup between the TCU Horned Frogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels in Dublin, Ireland. This game is scheduled for noon EDT at Aviva Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN. TCU enters the game as a 9.5-point favorite after finishing the past two seasons with a 9-4 record and bowl victories.

Head coach Sonny Dykes has led TCU to a 36-17 record over five seasons, including a national championship game appearance in his first year. Conversely, North Carolina, under coach Bill Belichick, is aiming to bounce back from a challenging 2025-26 season where they finished 4-8.

Belichick noted the unpredictability both teams face as they prepare for the season opener, saying, "There are unknowns on our team, there are unknowns on our opponents."

The TCU-North Carolina game is part of an eight-game Week 0 slate, which also features notable matchups such as the No. 14 USC Trojans against the San Jose State Spartans. Most FBS season openers will take place the following week, with several key games scheduled through September 7.
