The Houston Texans have added Chris Braswell to their practice squad, aiming to enhance their pass-rushing capabilities. This decision follows injuries that have affected the team’s defensive-end depth, making the move timely as the NFL season approaches.
Braswell, a former second-round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released during the team’s final roster adjustments on August 30, 2026. Over his two seasons with Tampa Bay, he participated in 34 games, accumulating 48 tackles and 2.5 sacks, although he did not secure a starting position.
His college performance at Alabama, where he recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for loss in his final season, highlighted his potential, which led to his draft selection.
In Houston, Braswell is not expected to immediately fill a starting role. Instead, he will focus on specific responsibilities, such as edge setting and quarterback pursuit, while established players like Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter manage more complex tasks. Braswell's previous connection with Anderson, a former Alabama teammate, may facilitate his integration into the Texans' defensive scheme.
The Texans currently feature key edge rushers, including Anderson, Hunter, and Jadeveon Clowney, but injuries have strained their depth. The addition of Braswell could prove beneficial as the season unfolds.
