Tyler Goodson has secured a place on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad after the team waived running back Israel Abanikanda. Dallas added the depth following an injury to Malik Davis. The move came after 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue were released late in training camp.

Goodson spent camp with the Atlanta Falcons and paced them with 92 rushing yards in the preseason, including a 49-yard touchdown. In three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, he ran for 264 yards and one touchdown on 54 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson told Blogging The Boys' RJ Ochoa that Goodson is an elite player who can cut across the field, catch passes and fill several offensive roles. Robinson said he wanted Goodson to stay in Atlanta.

Goodson's speed and receiving skills provide Dallas with another backfield option, though the source said his opportunity to play appears limited as the team keeps him for depth. The Cowboys are preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after opening with a loss to the New York Giants.

Dallas had under 100 rushing yards in that game, and Javonte Williams led the team with 41 yards.
