Jared Nuness, previously an assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, is facing sanctions from the NCAA due to his admission of placing around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various sports. This situation emerged following an investigation initiated by a third-party sports wagering monitoring system that identified Nuness in November 2025.
Baylor conducted an internal inquiry and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a collaborative investigation. In February 2026, Nuness confessed to the NCAA about violating its regulations by wagering on professional sports via two online sportsbooks.
He also allowed his minor son to access these betting accounts, resulting in his son placing three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball totaling $170.
The NCAA's report indicated that Nuness's betting activities did not involve Baylor University or its student-athletes. He took full responsibility for his actions, and both Nuness and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to categorize the case as a Level II-Standard violation.
Following his departure from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 for personal reasons, Nuness is now subject to a two-year show-cause order. This order requires him to complete significant education on sports betting and to provide similar training to his colleagues.
