Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino is out for the rest of the season with a leg injury suffered against Prairie View A&M, coach Dave Aranda confirmed after the game. The injury happened on Baylor’s second offensive snap from scrimmage, when a Prairie View A&M lineman used a cut block. Tezino summoned medical personnel and was taken from the field by cart.
The fifth-year senior from Killeen opened the season with two sacks and a tipped pass that became an interception against Auburn. Aranda said Tezino had been playing the strongest football of his career before getting hurt.
Tezino played in all 12 games last season, including seven starts, after dealing with injuries. He posted 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup that year. Across 29 games at Baylor, he has 56 tackles.
Baylor has depth on its defensive line, but Tezino is the second starter lost for the season. Safety Jacob Redding is the other player identified as having a season-ending injury. SicEm365 reported the injury and Aranda’s comments.
