TCU fell to Central Florida, 21-13, in Orlando, opening Big 12 play for both teams and leaving the Horned Frogs 0-2 against Power Four opponents. TCU committed 11 penalties totaling 86 yards, had two fewer turnovers than UCF and averaged 1.2 yards per rushing attempt. The team is averaging 11.5 points per game after its first month.
Jaden Craig, a Harvard transfer, is still listed ahead of sophomore Adam Schobel. Schobel did not appear as a freshman in 2025 and has made one pass this season. In games against North Carolina and UCF, Craig has gone 45-for-72 for 485 yards, two interceptions and zero touchdown passes.
He also has 10 rushing attempts for negative-38 yards, with sacks included in college football rushing totals. The source said his receivers have provided limited help, while Craig has had difficulty creating plays when pressure disrupts the pocket.
Craig signed with TCU for more money than Schobel, according to the report, adding financial and personnel considerations to the choice. TCU could keep Craig for the Oct. 3 home matchup with No. 9 BYU, a game the team once hoped would begin a 4-0 season and bring ESPN's “College GameDay” to Fort Worth.
Schobel's first start could come at Baylor on Oct. 17 after the bye week. Dykes has previously changed quarterbacks after injuries, including Max Duggan for Chandler Morris in 2022 and Josh Hoover for Morris in 2023.
