Texas Christian University has reinstated media access for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, effective September 4, following a suspension that lasted nearly two weeks. The suspension occurred after the newspaper covered an incident involving Jacob Fields and Dozie Noble Ezukanma, who suffered a brain bleed, leading to Fields being charged with aggravated assault.
Despite the credential suspension, the Star-Telegram continued its reporting on the situation. TCU Athletics released a statement emphasizing its commitment to progress and recognizing the newspaper's role as an independent news outlet in the area.
The Horned Frogs began their season with a loss against North Carolina, finishing 15-10 in a game held in Ireland. They are set to play against Grambling State on September 12. The decision to revoke the Star-Telegram’s credentials was reportedly connected to threats made against Ezukanma, although the newspaper maintained it did not reveal his identity following the incident.
With the reinstatement, the Star-Telegram will regain full access to media areas during TCU games.
