Spurs top Suns 123-103 in preseason behind a 38-point second quarter

A 38-point second quarter carried the San Antonio Spurs past the Phoenix Suns 123-103 on Wednesday in a preseason game at Frost Bank Center.

The Suns were up 23-22 after the first period. By halftime San Antonio led 60-49, and the Spurs won each of the last three quarters, 38-26, 32-26 and 31-28.

Spurs leaders

Victor Wembanyama made 9 of 14 shots and scored 19 points in 23 minutes. He also had four blocks. Stephon Castle scored 18, Carter Bryant 16 and Ja'Kobi Gillespie 13, and Tarris Reed Jr. had nine rebounds.

Suns leaders

Jamaree Bouyea had 15 points, eight assists and four rebounds. Ryan Dunn made all six of his field-goal tries for 15 points.

The Suns scored 64 points in the paint to San Antonio's 48 but made 7 of 31 3-pointers.

It was the Spurs' first preseason win. Both teams are 1-3, and the crowd was 18,354.
