Denton-area high school football teams concluded their second games of the season, with all 11 local squads taking the field. Two notable results emerged from the week's action, featuring a milestone victory for the Guyer Wildcats and a continued strong start for the Braswell Bengals.
In a matchup between two state-ranked teams, No. 7 Guyer defeated No. 8 Melissa 27-9 at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. The win marked the 200th victory in Guyer program history. The Wildcats, who are in their 21st varsity season, have previously captured back-to-back state championships in 2012 and 2013. Their defense limited Melissa to just 88 total yards of offense throughout the contest.
Guyer built an early lead with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Carter Morgan. They extended their advantage to 17-2 at halftime following a 17-yard pass from Morgan to DJ Reese and a 42-yard field goal by Andrew Johnson. Melissa scored their only points on a safety before adding a late third-quarter touchdown to make the margin 17-9.
Guyer closed the game with a 1-yard run by Khyren Haywood and another field goal by Johnson. Morgan finished with 237 passing yards and one touchdown, while Reese caught 13 passes for 156 yards.
In another result, Braswell defeated Dallas Skyline 45-10 at Forester Athletic Complex. This victory gives the Bengals a 2-0 start, a feat achieved only once before in the program's first 11 varsity seasons. Under first-year head coach Justen Evans, the team had previously beaten Crandall 35-24 in their season opener. Braswell led 21-3 at halftime and extended the lead to 35-3 in the third quarter.
