Justin Ray Deleon, 31, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for causing a fatal crash in Grayson County last year. The sentence was handed down on Thursday for the charge of Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle.
Grayson County District Attorney John Kemit Hill stated that Deleon had been drinking in Prosper before driving into oncoming traffic on State Highway 289 in Dorchester. The collision occurred last October and resulted in a head-on impact with another vehicle, killing the other driver.
Testing revealed Deleon’s blood alcohol concentration was .174, which is more than double the legal limit for drivers in Texas. Hill noted that Deleon also had a previous DWI conviction from 2015.
During the proceedings, Hill addressed public perceptions of drunk driving. He stated that many individuals view driving while intoxicated as a victimless offense and dismiss the consequences with indifference. The outcome in this case demonstrated the severe reality of such actions.
