Two Melissa ISD students injured in bike collision near school

Two Sumeer Elementary students were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle near their school.

Two students from Sumeer Elementary were struck by a vehicle while riding their bikes to school, according to officials. The collision took place at the intersection of Eaglestone Drive and Valley Run around 7:50 a.m. on Monday, as stated in a press release from the Melissa Police Department.

Melissa ISD confirmed that the two students were on their way to campus when the incident occurred. Emergency responders, police officers, and school administrators arrived at the scene following the crash. Both students were transported to a hospital, where they were treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The Melissa Police Department indicated that the incident is currently under investigation. In a statement, the department emphasized the need for drivers to exercise caution in areas near schools. The release urged motorists to slow down and remain alert to protect student safety.

"We cannot stress enough the importance of patience and caution in school zones and surrounding neighborhoods," the release states. "Please slow down, stay alert, and prioritize the safety of our students at all times."
