Hugs Café Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing job training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, inaugurated its new headquarters in McKinney on July 2. The facility, which cost $10 million to build, is designed to enhance the nonprofit's capacity to prepare individuals for careers in the hospitality sector.
The new two-story building spans 13,500 square feet and consolidates the nonprofit's café, hospitality training academy, and administrative offices in one location. It includes modern amenities such as a training kitchen, four classrooms, a rooftop deck, and an outdoor patio. Located at 221 Andrews St. in downtown McKinney, the new headquarters significantly increases the number of trainees Hugs can accommodate, allowing for 12 participants per class, up from six. The organization can now train up to 32 individuals in each 12-week semester.
Funding for the project was supported by a $970,000 contribution from the McKinney Community Development Corp. The development was managed by KDC, with architectural design by Corgan and construction handled by Brasfield & Gorrie. Construction commenced in May 2026, culminating in the recent opening.
This investment reflects a broader commitment to enhancing job training facilities in North Texas, aiming to create more employment opportunities for adults with disabilities in the hospitality industry.
