Melissa ISD's board will be asked Monday to adopt a calendar for the 2027-28 school year, approve a list of library books recommended by the district's SLAC committee, and amend the district's District of Innovation plan, according to the agenda posted for the Oct. 19 meeting.

The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Melissa Schools Home Office, 1904 Cooper St.

Library purchases

Trustees will vote on "the list of library materials as proposed by the SLAC for procurement." The attached three-page list, dated Sept. 29, recommends titles for readers from pre-K through about ninth grade, each listed with its ISBN, intended grade level and the professional reviews that recommend it.

Among them are Katherine Applegate's "Pocket Bear," Linda Sue Park's "Gracie under the Waves" and Kate Messner's "The Trouble with Heroes." The district's Library and Media Services coordinator is listed to present the list.

Calendar and innovation plan

The 2027-28 calendar is an action item, but no draft calendar was attached to the posted agenda. A separate item asks trustees to approve a District of Innovation amendment concerning the requirement to notify parents about an uncertified teacher. The agenda does not include the text of the change.

Trustees will also take a first reading of updates to six local policies, coded DBA, DCA, DK, EB, EEB and FDA.

Financial rating hearing

The board will hold its annual public hearing on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. The state report attached to the agenda shows Melissa ISD rated A, Superior Achievement, with 92 points; 70 is passing. The rating is based on 2024-25 data.

The district passed every pass-fail indicator. Its lowest marks came on the measure comparing future debt requirements with assessed property value, where it received 2 points, and on attendance compared with the district's projection and posting required financial information online, at 5 points each. Most other scored measures earned 10.

Employee awards

A resolution would declare a public purpose for "awards of nominal value" to employees, paid from money set aside in the budget trustees adopted Aug. 17. The resolution says the awards are meant to improve performance and morale and to recognize work beyond an employee's job description, with spending controls and periodic audits.

Reports on construction, English learners and gifted services, budget amendments and a closed session for personnel and other matters are also on the agenda.
