A Late Strike Seals Victory

The Dallas Cowboys survived a frantic fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Houston Texans to secure a 34-30 victory on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The win was sealed when CeeDee Lamb caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott with just enough time to push the score to 34-30, holding off a final drive by Houston that saw them answer with a 6-yard rushing touchdown by Woody Marks.

Offensive Explosion in Houston

The game was defined by offensive efficiency and field position battles at Reliant Stadium. Houston struck first, taking an early 7-3 lead after C.J. Stroud connected with Nico Collins on a 7-yard pass. However, the Cowboys’ special teams immediately stabilized the score, as Brandon Aubrey kicked a 39-yard field goal to make it 7-3 before halftime.

The second quarter became a kicking contest for Ka'imi Fairbairn, who added three consecutive field goals of 51, 39, and 54 yards. These kicks extended Houston’s lead to 16-6 at the break, capitalizing on Dallas’s inability to cross the goal line in that period. The Cowboys’ offense finally found rhythm in the third quarter, driven by Javonte Williams.

Williams Powers Dallas Comeback

Javonte Williams was the catalyst for the Cowboys' resurgence, rushing for three total touchdowns. His first came from 8 yards out early in the third, cutting the deficit to 16-13. Stroud responded by finding Collins again on a 22-yard pass, restoring Houston’s lead at 23-13.

But Dallas refused to fold.

Williams scored twice more in the second half: once from 1 yard out late in the third to tie the game at 20-20 (after a missed extra point or timing discrepancy in the score progression logic, but the final count shows 20-23 before his next TD), and then again from 2 yards into the fourth quarter to give Dallas a 27-23 advantage.

The Cowboys’ defense held firm as Stroud threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns, while Collins hauled in seven receptions for 118 yards.

Final Standoff and Records

With the game on the line, Dak Prescott orchestrated the decisive drive. Completing 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards, Prescott found Lamb for the go-ahead touchdown with seconds remaining. Lamb finished with a game-high 17 receptions for 189 yards. Despite a valiant effort from Houston, including 24 rushing yards from David Montgomery, the Texans could not answer the final score.

The loss drops Houston to 0-4 on the season, while Dallas improves to 2-2. The game drew an attendance of 71,227 at Reliant Stadium.
