Washington Nationals outfielder CJ Abrams and infielder Luis García Jr. delivered a decisive offensive performance on Wednesday, driving in runs with home runs and sacrifice flies to secure an 8-2 win against the Houston Astros. The victory improved Washington’s record to 48-46, while Houston fell to 46-49.
Abrams and García Jr. combined for two home runs, highlighting a four-run explosion in the fourth inning that effectively ended the contest. García Jr. launched a 417-foot shot to right-center field, bringing home Ruiz and Wood for a three-run inning. Earlier, Abrams had contributed via a sacrifice fly in the third, and he added another solo home run in the fifth to right-center field, measuring 415 feet.
Pitching Dominance
Washington starter Foster Griffin was the standout pitcher, earning the win with a dominant outing. He pitched seven innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out nine batters without issuing a walk. Griffin’s performance (10-2) kept the Astros off balance for the majority of the game.
Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti struggled significantly, taking the loss after allowing eight earned runs on seven hits over four innings. He also walked six batters and recorded only two strikeouts. Arrighetti’s record dropped to 7-5. Relief pitchers Alimber Santa, Nate Pearson, and Cristian Javier combined to shut down the Nationals' offense for the final five innings, allowing no further runs.
On the mound for Washington, Orlando Ribalta and Justin Lawrence closed out the game. Ribalta pitched one inning, allowing two hits, while Lawrence secured the final out by retiring the side in order with one hit allowed.
