Clement’s two-run homer in 10th gives Blue Jays 5-4 win over Astros

Clement changes it late

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park, with Ernie Clement providing the decisive swing in the 10th inning.

With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the 10th, Clement homered to left, a 391-foot shot that scored Urías and gave Toronto a 5-3 lead. Houston answered in the bottom half when Alvarez singled to right, scoring Peña. Alvarez was out trying to stretch the hit to second, and Houston Astros challenged the call; the call on the field was upheld.

Houston builds a 3-0 lead

Houston scored all of its early runs in the bottom of the third. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left for a 1-0 Astros lead.

Walker followed later in the inning with a double to left that scored Varsho, making it 2-0. Wade Jr. then singled to center, bringing in Walker and pushing Houston ahead 3-0.

Toronto did not score until the top of the sixth. Okamoto singled to center, scoring Straw and cutting the deficit to 3-1. Sánchez followed with a 398-foot homer to right, with Okamoto scoring on the play, and the Blue Jays tied the game 3-3.

Those three scoring swings by Altuve, Sánchez and Clement accounted for the game’s three home runs.

Pitching lines

Jameson Taillon allowed six hits and three earned runs over four innings for Toronto, with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles pitched two innings, allowing two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty worked one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts.

Tyler Rogers pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks. Louis Varland worked one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout, earning the win to move to 4-4. Chase Lee allowed one hit over one inning with no earned runs and no walks, recording his first save.

For Houston, Hunter Brown allowed three hits and three earned runs over six innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one scoreless inning. Bennett Sousa allowed two hits and one earned run over one inning and took the loss, falling to 0-1.
