Decisive Fourth Inning Shifts Momentum
The Houston Astros secured a narrow 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers at Daikin Park on Saturday, capitalizing on a multi-run fourth inning to overcome an early deficit. The win improved Houston’s record to 57-55, while the Rangers fell to 55-56.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jose Altuve crossed home plate after a single by Corey Wade Jr. That advantage was short-lived. In the third, Ezequiel Duran homered to left field to tie the game at 1-1. The Rangers quickly retake the lead later in the frame as Adolis Garcia singled, driving in two runs to make it 3-1.
The fourth inning proved pivotal for Houston. Josh Hader’s successor, Ronel Blanco, struggled with control, allowing several baserunners. However, the Astros’ offense exploded against Texas relief pitcher Cole Winn.
After a sacrifice bunt moved runners into scoring position, Walker reached on an infield single to score a run, making it 3-2. The inning continued with controversy as Alvarez scored on a wild pitch by Winn, though the Rangers challenged the call which was upheld. Another wild pitch by Winn allowed Alvarez to score again, completing a four-run fourth-inning rally that put Houston ahead 5-3.
Pitching Performances Define Outcome
Texas starter Jacob deGrom had a difficult outing, lasting only 3.1 innings while allowing five earned runs on seven hits and walking five batters. He took the loss, dropping his record to 7-7. The Rangers’ bullpen, including Cole Winn, Tyler Alexander, Peyton Gray, and Chase Silseth, managed to keep the game within reach by not allowing further runs after the fourth inning.
