Astros take the lead
The Houston Astros defeated the New York Mets 3-1 on Friday, August 28, at Citi Field in Queens, New York. Hunter Brown earned the win, limiting the Mets to one run over six and two-thirds innings. The Mets, who were the home team, fell to a record of 60-75. The Astros improved to 68-67. Attendance at the venue was 28,848.
Scoring unfolds
The Mets took an early lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Benge doubled to center, allowing Lindor to score. The running score was 1-0 in favor of New York.
The Astros responded in the sixth inning. Varsho singled to right, scoring Alvarez and Paredes while Altuve advanced to third. This play brought the score to 2-1.
Later in the same inning, Diaz singled to right, scoring Altuve and moving Varsho to second. This play extended the Astros' lead to 3-1. No home runs were recorded in the game.
