Astros Surge in Sixth
The Houston Astros overcame an early deficit to defeat the Chicago White Sox 9-5 at Rate Field on Friday. The contest turned on a massive sixth inning where Houston erupted for eight runs, breaking open a tight game and securing the victory. Walker and Smith were instrumental in the offensive explosion that shifted the momentum entirely in Houston's favor.
Early White Sox Lead
Chicago took control early, building a 5-0 lead by the middle of the fifth inning. The White Sox offense started scoring in the first inning. C. Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Antonacci to score.
Shortly after, B. Montgomery singled to right field, bringing Murakami home, while Vargas moved to third. Meidroth was then hit by a pitch, driving in Vargas to make it 3-0.
The White Sox extended their lead in the fifth inning. Benintendi scored on a wild pitch by Houston’s Kai-Wei Teng, and another wild pitch by Teng allowed Benintendi to score again. Meidroth then doubled to center field, scoring B. Montgomery to push the lead to 5-0.
Davis Martin pitched five innings for Chicago, allowing four earned runs on six hits, but his team held a commanding advantage.
Six-Inning Offensive Outburst
Houston began chipping away at the lead in the sixth inning. Wade Jr. singled to right field, allowing Alvarez to score, making it 5-1. The inning exploded moments later when Walker doubled to left field.
