Hayden Wesneski delivered a masterful outing for the Houston Astros, allowing just one hit over seven innings to secure the victory. The right-hander struck out five batters while issuing two walks, maintaining complete control over the Chicago White Sox lineup throughout his time on the mound.
His performance was complemented by AJ Blubaugh and Josh Hader in relief, who combined to retire the side in order for the final three innings without surrendering a run or walk.
Wesneski’s efficiency set the tone for the game. He faced minimal pressure, limiting the White Sox to a single hit while keeping their offense static. Blubaugh entered to pitch the eighth inning, recording two hits but no runs allowed. Hader closed out the ninth with a perfect frame, striking out one batter and preserving the shutout.
The Deciding Moment
The game remained scoreless until the eighth inning when the Astros finally broke through against White Sox pitcher Sean Newcomb. Nelson Velázquez singled to center field, driving in two runs. Jose Altuve and Yordan Paredes crossed the plate on the play, giving Houston a 2-0 advantage. The run sequence provided the only offense of the contest for Texas.
Newcomb struggled after leaving the game, taking the loss with his record falling to 2-4. He allowed two runs over two innings, including the decisive two-run single. Tyler Davis pitched the final inning of relief, issuing a walk but escaping without further damage.
