Rakell Decides It

Rickard Rakell scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. Pittsburgh was the home team, and Dallas was the visiting team.

The game remained scoreless through the first two periods before each team scored once in the third. After regulation ended tied 1-1, the Penguins prevailed in the shootout.

Third-Period Trade

Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third period when Connor Dewar scored on a backhand. Blake Lizotte assisted on the goal, which was Dewar’s first of the game.

Dallas answered when Tyler Seguin scored on a tip-in. Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen assisted on the tying goal. Dewar and Seguin each finished with one goal, while Lizotte and Heiskanen each recorded one assist.

Ben Kindel scored first in the shootout for Pittsburgh, followed by Sidney Crosby. Seguin scored for Dallas, and Wyatt Johnston also converted for the Stars. Rakell then scored on a wrist shot, giving Pittsburgh the 2-1 victory.

The period scoring was 0-0 in the first, 0-0 in the second and 1-1 in the third. The shootout supplied the game's final difference.

Records

The Penguins improved to 3-2-1 with seven points after the game. The Stars moved to 2-2-1 with five points.

Attendance at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was 18,192.
