Shavon Revel’s week changed on the final practice report. After sitting out Wednesday and Thursday, he was listed as a full participant Friday and received no game-status designation for Dallas’ Sunday visit to Houston. Malik Hooker made the same move from limited work to full participation, while Joey Porter Jr. also cleared the report after his second practice with the Cowboys.
For Dallas, that is a meaningful expansion of the defensive menu. It is not a declaration that every available player should receive a full workload. The Cowboys have choices again; they still have to decide how much preparation, experience and recent injury history each choice can reasonably carry.
The timing matters because Cobie Durant will miss the game. Durant was ruled out with a hamstring injury after missing all three practices, and he also missed the Sept. 27 loss to Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro.
His absence is continuing rather than a new Friday development, but it leaves Dallas needing to organize its secondary without him while Revel’s status has moved in the opposite direction.
Revel’s participation timeline is the news. He was listed with a right knee issue after hyperextending it late in the Baltimore game and also appeared with an ankle designation in Houston’s Week 4 injury table. Two straight DNPs made Sunday uncertain. Full participation Friday removed the final game-status barrier, though it did not disclose a snap count, starting role or particular assignment.
That distinction keeps Revel from being treated as a plug-and-play replacement for Durant. A player who misses the first two practices of the week may be cleared to participate without being prepared for every responsibility he would have carried under a normal schedule. Dallas can build him into the plan, but the report does not establish how heavily.
Nico Collins’ Friday clearance makes that decision more consequential. The Houston receiver progressed from limited participation Wednesday and Thursday to full work Friday, with no game designation. Dallas therefore has a newly available defensive option at the same time Houston has restored an important piece of its passing-game choices. No promised one-on-one assignment follows from either update.
Hooker’s return offers a different kind of flexibility. He suffered a fractured forearm in the season’s opening game against the Giants and missed the next two contests. His full Friday participation gives Dallas another experienced option in the back end, but it does not prove that the injury is entirely behind him or that he will handle every defensive snap.
Full practice and unrestricted game usage are separate judgments.
Porter adds the most unusual variable. Dallas acquired him from Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, sending a 2028 second-round selection and a 2027 sixth-round selection in the deal. After the club evaluated his physical readiness and communication during his second practice, Porter received no game designation Friday. Stephen Jones indicated after practice that Dallas expects Porter to see snaps, although the specific usage plan remains undisclosed.
That places Porter closer to a real debut than a vague possibility, but it still leaves the role undefined. His arrival gives the Cowboys another body to consider in a secondary already dealing with Durant’s absence and Revel’s interrupted week. It does not instantly create the continuity that comes from a full week of preparation with the same teammates and responsibilities.
