Melissa Public Library's calendar for the next nine days includes programs for veterans adjusting to civilian life, people caring for a relative with dementia and families looking for ways to pay for college, along with a free magic show for children.
Here is what is on the city's events calendar.
Veterans Connect, Tuesday
A representative from the Dallas Veterans Center will be in the library's Community Room from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, for a session the library calls Veterans Connect: Readjustment Counseling Services.
The visits happen twice a month. According to the listing, they explain confidential support open to veterans and their family members, such as help with the move back to civilian life, stress management and finding resources, and they give veterans a chance to ask questions and meet other veterans. The next visit on the calendar is Tuesday, Oct. 27, also from 1 to 3 p.m.
Dementia caregivers, Friday
Dementia Caregiving and Connection meets from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Community Room. The library describes it as a support group for caregivers and relatives of people living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, a place to talk through experiences, trade tips and resources and meet others in the same situation.
A magic show for kids, Saturday, Oct. 17
Magician James Wand brings a spy-themed show to the Council Chambers from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Children help solve clues and crack codes, and the program ties the act to reading and writing. Tickets are free but limited: the library starts handing them out 10 minutes before the show, first come, first served, and every person attending needs a ticket.
