Teams of cornhole players can sign up now for the Melissa Education Foundation's fall tournament, a fundraiser for Melissa ISD students and teachers set for Saturday, Oct. 24.

The event takes over the Z-Plex Tennis Courts in Melissa that afternoon. Check-in and registration open at 12:30 p.m., and the first bags fly at 1 p.m., according to a district announcement. Entry is $50 per team.

It is pitched as a family outing as much as a competition: the district says there will be bounce houses, raffles, food and drinks alongside the boards.

Where the money goes

The foundation's tournament page says the event supports scholarships and classroom grants for Melissa ISD. The nonprofit's stated mission is "to enrich the lives of Melissa ISD students through scholarships, teacher grants and other educational opportunities."

The Zadow family started the foundation in 2006. Since then it has provided more than $2 million in scholarships to graduating seniors and grants to Melissa ISD teachers, according to its website.

Sponsorships

Businesses and families can also back the tournament as sponsors, with levels starting at $500. The foundation lists four tiers:

  • Champion sponsor, $5,000
  • Toss sponsor, $2,500
  • Cardinal sponsor, $1,500
  • MEF T-shirt sponsor, $500

Team registration, tickets and sponsor sign-ups are handled through the foundation's website, melissaeducationfoundation.com.
