The Collin County animal shelter in McKinney, which handles animal control for Melissa, would get general veterinary services from Operation Kindness under an agreement on the county Commissioners Court's agenda for Monday, Oct. 19.
The interlocal agreement, contract No. 2026-504, is listed on the consent agenda. It was submitted by the county's Development Services department, which asked commissioners to approve veterinary services for the Collin County Animal Shelter and to authorize the county judge to finalize and sign it.
Cost and term
The county expects to spend about $13,000 a year on the services, according to the agenda memo. The agreement would run for one year beginning Dec. 1, 2026, with options for two more one-year renewals.
The money would come from two shelter accounts, the Animal Safety Fund and the Spay/Neuter Fund, the budget office wrote. The auditor's office said funds are available in both, adding that the budget is "anticipated to be approved for FY2028."
The memo does not describe which procedures Operation Kindness would perform or how the work would be split with the shelter's existing care.
