Collin County trains about 1,100 poll workers for more than 40 early voting sites ahead of Nov. 3

Collin County is putting roughly 1,100 poll workers through training this month before early voting opens Oct. 19, county officials told NBC 5 on Thursday.

Those workers will run more than 40 early voting sites countywide for the Nov. 3 general election, according to the officials. Early voting runs through Oct. 30, and applications for a mail ballot must be received by Oct. 23, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

Training before every election

The sessions walk workers through checking in voters, confirming registration information and handling problems that come up at the polls. Because procedures and state election law keep changing, officials said, workers are retrained before each election, not just once.

"Any time you change even what would appear to be a small election process or procedure, it's a big ship to turn," Collin County Elections Administrator Kaleb Breaux told the station.

That applies to veterans, too. Kirk Robicheaux, an election worker since 1998 who has served as a judge for over 15 years, NBC 5 reported, and he still sits through training each cycle. "I'm definitely waiting to hear those things that have changed," he said. The goal, he said, is to make sure every ballot is "cast completely and accurately."

Paper ballots, machine counts

In June 2025, commissioners unanimously approved switching in-person voters to hand-marked paper ballots, starting with the November 2025 election, according to a county release. The county said then that it was not moving to hand counts: completed ballots are fed into the same DS200 scanners at each polling place, and accessible ballot-marking devices remain available for voters with disabilities.

The county had more than 750,000 registered voters in the November 2024 election, according to that release. Voters can find polling locations and sample ballots on the county elections website, collincountytx.gov/elections.
