Melissa ISD has lined up two free community nights at Melissa High School for the last week of October, the district announced Friday.

Melissa Madness, Oct. 28

The Cardinal boys and girls basketball teams will start their 2026-27 season with Melissa Madness on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Doors open at 6 p.m. in The Arena, and admission is free.

The evening introduces both varsity teams and gives younger fans a chance to meet the players, according to the district. The program includes games and prizes, a performance by the Melissa Cardinal Cheerleaders and the Ruby Belles, and a scrimmage by each basketball team.

Trunk or Treat, Oct. 30

Two days later, on Friday, Oct. 30, Melissa High holds its annual community Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. in the school's parking lot.

High school athletic teams, clubs and organizations will decorate car trunks, hand out candy and run small games for children. The district describes the night as a way for students to give back to the community that supports them. If the weather turns bad, the event moves inside to the Melissa High gym.

Before either event, the Cardinals volleyball team holds senior night on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when the program will recognize its senior players, the district said.
